Impact Observatory works with world leading experts from the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Center and leading academic institutions to build dynamic biodiversity habitat mapping and human impact mapping capabilities at global scale.
This work builds on internationally credible scientific data products including the Biodiversity Intactness Index and the Human Footprint dataset to create operational dynamic data outputs. The operational products leverage IO’s core capabilities for producing high resolution land use land cover (LULC) maps over time, combined with distinguished science models, to detect changes in critical biodiversity habitat and to monitor the status and impact of human development on pristine environments as well as protected and conservation areas.
Monitoring the impact of human development will be critical for preserving, managing, and restoring biodiversity and the ecosystem services biodiversity provides.
