Impact Observatory (IO) is a mission-driven technology company bringing artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms and data to sustainability and environmental risk analysis for governments, civil society, and green markets. IO is looking for Software Engineers to develop and maintain geospatial web applications. IO Software Engineers are responsible for developing the technical capabilities to deliver novel data products and decision support applications in support of the company’s mission. As an early employee, this role requires willingness to work across company functions to scale and deploy new technologies, including with our Science and Product teams. A successful candidate will be creative, nimble, curious, and passionate about preserving Earth’s vulnerable populations and species.

What you’ll do...

  • Build and manage data APIs
  • Maintain and add features to IO's dynamic geospatial platform built with React
  • Apply open geospatial software and standards to meet company objectives
  • Work closely with our Science and Product teams to deliver on customer commitments

What you bring...

  • Excitement to work collaboratively in a fast-moving team environment
  • Passion for open geospatial software and standards
  • Software development experience (Javascript and/or Python)
  • Working knowledge of geospatial packages (e.g., mapbox-gl)
  • Experience in deploying and using cloud environments
  • Working knowledge of version-control platforms (e.g. GitHub, GitLab)
  • Significant experience with React
